The Iranian men's national freestyle wrestling team has claimed the top position at the end of the 2017 Freestyle Worldinfo-icon Cup in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah, after trouncing the American side in the title challenge,Press Tvinfo-icon reported.

On Friday evening, the Iranian sportsmen immersed spectators at Kermanshah's Imam Khomeini Sport Venue and wrestling enthusiasts worldwide into tremendous admiration, as they outmuscled their American counterparts 5-3 in their final meetings.

Iraninfo-icon's 27-year-old Hassan Sabzali Rahimi prevailed over USinfo-icon freestyle wrestler Anthony Ramos 6-0 in the men's 57-kilogram weight category.

Logan Stieber conceded a 2-6 defeat to Iran's Masoud Esmaeilpoorjouybari in the 61-kilogram weight division.

Iranian competitor Meysam Nasiri overcame Frank Aniello Molinaro 5-4 in the 65-kilogram weight class.

Additionally, Mostafa Hosseinkhani defeated his American opponent James Green 2-0 in the 70-kilogram category.

In the 74-kilogram class, American world and Olympic champion Jordaninfo-icon Ernest Burroughs went to great pains to clinch a narrow 3-2 victory over Iranian rival Peyman Yarahmadi.

Later, Hassan Yazdani Cherati of Iran lost to American wrestler David Taylor 8-4 by a technical fall in the 84-kilogram class.

Iran's Amir Mohammadi was not successful in his Herculean task to overcome Kyle Frederick Snyder in the 97-kilogram, and fell to him 6-0.

In the 125-kilogram weight category, Komeil Ghasemi registered an emphatic 5-0 win over American contestant Nick Gwiazdowski, and took top honors.

The 2017 Freestyle World Cup kicked off in Kermanshah, western Iran, on February 16 and wrapped up the next day.

Azerbaijaninfo-icon finished in the third place after defeating Turkeyinfo-icon in the bronze-medal playoff that ended 7-1.

Russiainfo-icon ended in the fifth place after downing Mongoliainfo-icon 7-1, and Georgiainfo-icon stood seventh after emerging victorious from its match with Indiainfo-icon 7-1.

The Iranian freestyle wrestling team took the World Cup title for the sixth year in a row on Friday, having recorded straight titles from 2012 and, thereby, cementing its claim as one of the most dominant forces in the historyinfo-icon of the sport.
