This week Google Play turned five. During these five years, it has Google Play has grown to more than one billion active users in 190 countries. With millions of apps, games, movies, songs and books, Google Play has become an important distribution platform for developers to build their global audience.
"On March 6, 2012, we opened our digital doors to offer you a one stop shop to find and enjoy your favourite apps, games, movies, TV shows, music, and books--and access them at anytime on your laptop, at home, on your TV or on the go, whether you are on or offline," said Google Play vice president Sameer Samat in blog post.
Commemorating its fifth anniversary, the company released the lists of top five most popular books, games, apps, songs, albums and films in the US since its inception.From Candy Crush to Snapchat, check out the most popular content from the last five years.
Top five apps:
Unsurprisingly, on the list of top five most-downloaded apps of all time, Facebook was able to secure three of the top five spots. Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram all were able to make it to the list.
What is really surprising is that the Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp was not part of the list.

However, keep in mind that the list doesn't take into account the apps pre-installed on devices.
Top installed games
Whether you love it or hate it, you simply can't ignore the popularity of Candy Crush Saga as the game topped the list of the most downloaded games ever on play store.
